Chord Electronics first took flight from the aviation world, where engineering without limits means uncompromising standards. This concept designed by company owner John Franks has helped shaped our philosophy since the company’s inception in 1989.  Our first amplifiers were supplied to the BBC, followed by world-leading studios including Abbey Road, Sony Music (New York) and later, The Royal Opera House.

Our reputation within the professional world generated demand for a domestic range encompassing the design, engineering and build standards demanded of the finest pro equipment. Today, we apply proprietary technologies to all of our British-made products and proudly deliver studio-grade audio performance across the entire Chord range.

  • Chord Electronics – SPM 1200 MK. II Stereo Power Amplifier

    Innovative clean power technologies and custom components within our stereo power amplifiers are what have propelled the Chord SPM series to legendary status in and outside the recording studio. Their ability to instantaneously react and deliver sheer power, whilst maintaining transparency and incredibly low distortion leaves you with nothing but a masterpiece.

    The SPM 1200 MkII is widely regarded as our most famous power amp and one that neatly combines great performance and fine value for money. The 350-watt powerhouse offers huge reserves of instantly delivered, precisely controlled power.

    Using the latest low-distortion amplifier circuitry with our own proprietary lateral-structure dual-die MOSFETs (16 x 150 watt devices per channel), the SPM1200MkII is able to drive more difficult loudspeaker loads effortlessly, with clarity and precision.

    At the heart of the amplifier is our own 2KW high-frequency switch-mode power supply with our unique dynamic coupling. The technique allows instantaneous power to be taken from both power rails simultaneously when the music demands, giving perfect balance and dynamic precision.

    The technology is complemented by a large bank of energy-storage capacitors that are ‘recharged’ by the power supply many thousands of times a second, giving the amplifier huge reserves and the ability to react without strain, to any signal.

    The amplifier offers both balanced and unbalanced inputs (two of each), plus a pair of high-current loudspeaker outputs with gold-plated connections. Simplicity of operation is retained with a single power button to switch the SPM1200Mk II out of standby.

    With Chord Electronics Limited’s considerable experience in the design and manufacture of the world’s best consumer and professional amplifiers, we are proud to announce our latest design of power amplifier utilising our high frequency power supply techniques and our own proprietary lateral structure dual-die MOSFETs. This amplifier provides all the benefits of mono amplification whilst retaining all of the much loved qualities of Chord Electronics amplifiers. Improvements in capacitor technology have boosted secondary reservoir levels to 94,000 µF storing over 381 Joules of energy. A “Superamp” in all but dimensions, this amplifier is for those whose goal is direct comparison between live and recorded music, a sentiment echoed by reviewer and customers alike.

    Hi-Fi News magazine recently praised the latest-generation SPM 1400MkII mono power amp in its September 2013 edition. The issue features an in-depth review of our new mono power amp and sums up by saying: “Beautiful to behold by both eye and ear, Chord’s MkII SPM 1400 monoblocks offer spectacular insight into music. Majoring on clarity, timing and delivering natural realism like few other power amps at any price, they tick every box in the audiophile hi-fi check list.     A high current mains filter ensures that the amplifier is shielded from disturbed mains as well as ensuring that the mains is untouched by emissions from the amplifier. The output from the power supply uses a truly innovative “Dynamic Coupling” technique whereby the positive and negative rails are mutually coupled by a strong magnetic flux. The result being that if a high demand is put on one rail, the energy required is actually drawn equally from both rails. This keeps the amplifier balanced dynamically and the reference point perfectly clean.

    As one of two exceptional monoblock options in our flagship Reference range, the SPM 6000 MkII is a no-compromise 750-watt mono amplifier (against 1,000 watts in its SPM 14000 MkII sibling). Along with its 14000 stablemate, the SPM 6000 MkII is one of the largest mono amplifiers we have ever built and its performance is spectacular.

    Having a dedicated mono power amplifier for each channel allows the benefits of the Chord approach to amplification to be fully exploited when used as part of a pre/power system.

    The SPM 6000 MkII uses three of our 5th-generation 4kW power supply units with our unique dynamic coupling techniques, run in a parallel configuration, but working individually. The technology is complemented by a large bank of energy-storage capacitors that are ‘recharged’ by the power supply, giving the amplifier huge reserves of headroom.

    Using the latest low-distortion amplifier circuitry with our own proprietary lateral structure dual-die MOSFETs, the SPM 6000 MkII offers incredible grip and control and is capable of taming even the most challenging loudspeaker; only the SPM 14000 MkII offers more power. Like its amplification siblings, the technology is complemented by a large bank of energy-storage capacitors that are ‘recharged’ by the power supply, giving the amplifier huge reserves of headroom.

  • Chord Electronics – CPM 3350 Integrated Amplifier

    Our flagship CPM 3350 Integrated Amplifier combines the legendary low distortion amplification of the SPM 1050 Mk. II with the precision and control of the CPA 3000 to produce our finest flexible hybrid. The CPM 3350 embodies the Chord Electronics pure audio experience.

    The CPM 3350 is our high-power stereo integrated amplifier and offers a conservative 250 watts of power, compared to our entry-level amp, the CPM 2650, which offers 120 watts. Like its sibling, the CPM 2650, the design uses trickle-down technology and construction techniques from our pre and power amps, in this instance, the CPA 3000 preamp and SPM1050 MkII power amplifier, distilled down into a neat, one-box solution.

    The amp offers great flexibility across its inputs, with adjustable input-gain — individual gains can be selected to prevent unwanted swings in volume when switching between inputs. The CPM 3350 enables line-level connection of up to six external components using RCA connections, with a further XLR balanced input option across two of the inputs. The amp also offers a bi-amping function and a preamp function, via a separately switchable preamplifier output. Two tape loop outputs are also provided.

    Chord’s ground-breaking ultra-high-frequency proprietary power supply technology is deployed in the CPM 3350, plus our own proprietary lateral-structure dual-die MOSFETs. Capable of delivering 250 watts into 8 ohms and colossal power into a decreasing load, the powerful CPM 3350 retains all the famous Chord hallmarks: power, resolution and transparency to name but a few. Further features include gold-plated speaker binding posts, capable of accepting spade or banana cable terminations, plus a front-panel display.

  • Chord Electronics – CPM 2800 MkII Integrated Amplifier

    Building upon the legendary low distortion amplification, precision, and control of the CPA 2500, the CPA 2650 Mk. II adds our formidable multi-award winning DAC architecture to create the ultimate all in one experience.

    Our versatile CPM 2800 MkII stereo integrated amplifier is differentiated from its two integrated stablemates by the implementation of an advanced DAC with multiple digital inputs. The CPM 2800 MkII is quite a proposition, as it features both our proprietary amplifier technologies and our proprietary FPGA DAC technology in one unit!

    Now in Mk II form, the CPM 2800 MkII adds the FPGA-based D/A convertor from the award-winning 2Qute DAC, to create an amplifier of unrivalled flexibility. The amp integrates our proprietary DAC technology into an affordable yet high-end solution and introduces a high-performance Spartan 6 FPGA chip to the DAC stage, with astonishingly low distortion levels of 0.0003%.

    Bluetooth-enabled, (via Chord’s high-quality custom-designed aptX Bluetooth receiver), the CPM 2800 MkII offers support for up to 32-bit/384kHz audio via BNC coax and USB, plus 24-bit/192kHz over optical. DSD64 is supported on all inputs and DSD128 is supported via coax or USB (all via DoP). The amp features a Class 2 USB input which has been galvanically isolated for greater sonic performance; this has been achieved using a novel technique which allows for very high data rates of up to 384kHz; the input is driverless on Apple and Android devices, with (ASIO included) drivers for Windows.

    Further features include a large, easy-to-read front panel screen, heavy-duty gold-plated binding posts, remote control, an A/V bypass input, plus Chord’s legendary aircraft-grade aluminium chassis and casework.

  • Chord Electronics – CPM 2650 Integrated Amplifier

    Our CPM 2650 Integrated Amplifier combines the legendary low distortion amplification of the SPM 650 with the precision and control of the CPA 2500 to produce an incredible hybrid. The CPM 2650 is the very embodiment of the Chord Electronics pure audio experience.

    The CPM 2650 is our entry level stereo integrated amplifier and is the most affordable way into full-size Chord Electronics amplification. Its design uses trickle-down technology and construction techniques from our CPA 2500 preamp and SPM 650 power amp, making it a thoroughbred Chord amplifier in a compact, one-box chassis.

    Highly flexible, the 120-watt CPM 2650 has all the flexibility of its bigger 250-watt stablemate, the CPM 3350, but with a more modest power output. The CPM 2650 enables line-level connection of up to six external components using RCA connections, with a further high-performance XLR balanced input option across two of the inputs. The amp also offers a bi-amping function and a preamp function, via a separately switchable preamplifier output. Two tape loop outputs are also provided.

    The CPM 2650’s power amp section is based on Chord’s ground-breaking ultra-high-frequency proprietary power supply technology, which like Chord’s standalone power amplifiers, has the ability to store a great deal more energy, and store it far more efficiently than conventional designs. This gives the amp enormous reserves of instantly delivered, precisely controlled power, enabling it to control even the most demanding loudspeaker loads.

    Reassuring weighty at 16kgs, the CPM 2650 features remote control and front-panel operation, plus all the Chord design hallmarks you would come to expect, including our trademark aircraft-grade aluminium chassis and precision-machined front panel.

     

  • Chord Electronics – DSX 1000 Reference Music Streamer

    Combining simplistic interfaces with multi-award winning FPGA DAC technology and UPnP/DLNA compatibility is what makes a Chord streamer the most refined, satisfying, listening experience.

    The DSX1000 is our flagship music streamer. A high-performance design, the DSX1000 directly benefits from our world-renowned proprietary DAC technology. The advanced FPGA architecture found inside the DSX1000, is the same technology as used in our DACs and CD players, giving the DSX1000 a significant sonic advantage over ordinary streamers with off-the-shelf DAC chips.

    The DSX1000 naturally features UPnP/DLNA access and control, and because of its FPGA architecture, it is capable of transforming the sound of MP3, WMA, WAV, AAC, ALAC and FLAC files, with 24-bit/192kHz and DSD64 support where available. The DSX1000’s streaming engine is directly coupled into our own DAC technology, which carefully re-clocks all data and removes unwanted jitter.

    Key features include an in-built analogue volume control circuit as used in our CPA8000 Reference preamp, which gives highly accurate volume adjustment without the problems and low-level distortions associated with conventional digital volume controls, a full-colour 3.5-inch TFT front-panel display showing album artwork, set up options etc. plus, volume-controlled and line-level analogue outputs which feature both balanced XLR and RCA phono connections. The unit can be controlled using many of the UPnP apps available for the iPhone, iPad and Android devices.

  • Chord Electronics – DAVE DAC

    DAVE is our flagship DAC, a true reference-level product, loaded with our latest-generation FPGA technology. Put simply, it is the most advanced DAC in the world.

    DAVE is the most advanced DAC we have ever made. It features the very best conversion technology available, using proprietary techniques never seen before, making DAVE the most advanced DAC/preamp amplifier in the world. DAVE stands for ‘Digital to Analogue Veritas in Extremis’, a moniker that best reflects the product’s capability; a device so advanced and with so few compromises, that it is absolutely truthful in the extreme — a standard that all other DACs on the market simply cannot hope to match.

    The DAC, which is also a reference-level headphone amplifier and ‘digital preamp’, distils twenty years of Chord research, development and advanced engineering into one device. At its heart lies a new version of the advanced Spartan 6 Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) with 1,000x the processing power of the traditional mass-produced chip DAC. DAVE’s FPGA is loaded with over a million lines of code to confront complex timing issues head-on, with speed and precision.

The device’s lossless digital volume control outputs the signal direct to your power amplifier for the purest experience.

    DAVE has a full-sized LCD display, showing input, sample frequency, volume and set-up configurations options, within Chord’s famous porthole design. On its fascia, DAVE also features a rotary encoder with a large stainless steel controller and ball buttons, enabling direct interactivity in addition to the supplied remote control.

  • Chord Electronics – 2QUTE DAC

    Using the same technology found within Hugo, our multi-award-winning portable DAC, 2Qute offers a simple, compact and affordable standalone solution for your two-channel system.

    The 2Qute is our entry level ”straight’ DAC (no headphone amp) and is an evolutionary product which has scooped a number of press awards in recent years. The 2Qute is undoubtedly a super-DAC for the modern age and features class-leading specification, outstanding technical measurements and proven sonic performance.

    The 2Qute advances our much-loved Qute EX DAC with Hugo specification. Essentially a Hugo in a Chordette chassis, it brings the latest FPGA DAC technology into an affordable home-system-orientated unit. 2Qute contains the same high-performance Spartan 6 FPGA that has enabled Hugo to redefine the DAC genre since its launch. The 2Qute also boasts astonishingly low distortion levels of 0.0003%.

    The 2Qute offers support for up to 32-bit/384kHz audio via coax and USB, and 24-bit/192kHz over optical. DSD64 is supported on all inputs and DSD128 is supported via coax or USB (all via DoP). The unit also gains a handy switch to easily move between coax, optical and USB digital inputs.

    The device features a Class 2 USB input which, because of the 2Qute’s home-system orientation compared to Hugo’s more mobile aspirations, has been galvanically isolated for greater sonic performance.
